India and Japan Sign Memorandum of Cooperation in Cybersecurity

2020-11-18

India and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, committing to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest—including cyberspace capacity building, protection of critical infrastructure, cooperation on emerging technologies, sharing of information on cybersecurity threats/incidents and malicious cyber activities, and best practices for responding to such threats/incidents—as well as establishing pragmatic joint mechanisms to mitigate cybersecurity threats targeting information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure.

India and Japan pledge to foster an open, interoperable, free, fair, secure, and reliable cyberspace environment, and to promote the internet as an engine for innovation, economic growth, and trade and commerce—consistent with their respective domestic laws and international obligations, as well as their broad strategic partnership.

The two sides will discuss and share strategies and best practices to enhance the integrity of ICT product supply chains; strengthen the security of ICT infrastructure through government-to-government and business-to-business cooperation; continue dialogue and engagement at the Internet Governance Forum; and support the active participation of all stakeholders from both countries in these forums.
