2020-11-22

Recently, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) South Africa office released the South Africa Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Investor Map, highlighting business opportunities linked to achieving the SDGs in South Africa. The map identifies 30 investment opportunities across four priority sectors—infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture—and states that these proposals align with both South Africa’s National Development Plan and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The investment opportunities highlighted by the agency include:

(1) Infrastructure: drinking water supply facilities and services, power infrastructure and power plants, waste management, affordable housing, and digital infrastructure;

(2) Education: distance learning, vocational skills training, and teacher training;

(3) Healthcare: online medical platforms and healthcare vocational training centers;

(4) Agriculture: agro-processing, water-saving technologies, and shared-economy platforms tailored for small- and medium-sized farms.
