On December 11, the 'China-South Africa Science Park Cooperation Seminar and Online Signing Ceremony for the Cross-Border Incubator'—a key event of the 2020 South Africa Science Forum—was successfully held. Attending and delivering speeches were Deputy Director-General Dan du Toit of the South African Department of Science and Innovation; Ruan Xiangping, First-Class Inspector of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of China; Shen Long, Counselor for Science and Technology at the Chinese Embassy in South Africa; Li Youping, Deputy Director of the Torch High-Tech Industry Development Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology of China; and Qi Haibing, Director of the Xi’an High-Tech Industries Development Zone Administrative Committee.
Deputy Director-General du Toit expressed warm congratulations on the successful signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on China-South Africa cross-border incubator cooperation, and stated that both sides should seize this opportunity to accelerate pragmatic collaboration between China and South Africa’s science parks. First-Class Inspector Ruan Xiangping noted with pleasure the substantial progress achieved in China-South Africa science park cooperation, and affirmed China’s willingness to work closely with the South African Department of Science and Innovation to provide robust support for such cooperation, thereby jointly promoting economic and technological development in both countries. Counselor Shen Long remarked that the successful signing of the MoU on cross-border incubator cooperation marks an important milestone in China-South Africa science park collaboration. He expressed hope that this incubator would serve as a bridge to effectively advance the transfer and commercialization of innovative technologies between the two countries, and rapidly nurture numerous outstanding start-ups—bringing tangible benefits to the societies and peoples of both nations.
