China's Tiantong-1 02 Satellite Capable of Providing Communications Services to the Middle East and Africa

2020-11-14

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) announced on November 13 that China successfully launched the Tiantong-1 02 satellite aboard a Long March-3B launch vehicle from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on the evening of November 12. The satellite will provide all-weather, round-the-clock, stable, and reliable mobile communication services—including voice calls, short messages, and data transmission—to users across China and its neighboring regions, the Middle East, Africa, and most areas of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Developed by the Fifth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation Co., Ltd., the Tiantong-1 02 satellite is a critical component of the Tiantong-1 satellite mobile communication system.

The system comprises three segments: the space segment, the ground segment, and user terminals. After entering orbit, the Tiantong-1 02 satellite will operate in conjunction with the Tiantong-1 01 satellite to form the space segment.
